In today’s fast-paced world, achieving the perfect “routine” has become just as coveted as a designer purse, toned arms and a large Instagram following.
The rise in influencer culture, “daily routine” videos and productivity apps have only contributed further to our obsession.
Most of us have a morning routine even if we don’t quite know it.
For some, it’s a frantic dash around the house looking for your keys while trying to dab that coffee stain out of your top, for others it can be a more laid-back affair with a chilled cup of coffee and a newspaper.
Whichever bucket you fall into, it is safe to say that many of us don’t start our days how we would actually like to.
As the shortest day of the year is quickly approaching, NOTHING can seem more tempting than hitting that snooze button just.one.more.time!
A lot of us are feeling overstretched, overwhelmed and just generally over-it, so the thought of adding anything else to our already busy days can seem as attractive as a 3 am alarm call.
However, building a daily routine can be simpler than you think.
Establishing a daily routine that works for you can help you remain calm, efficient and give you the right mindset to ready to tackle whatever lies ahead.
This can take some trial and error but to kick us off we’ve tapped into the daily habits of 5 successful women for some inspiration.

Start Your Day Without Coffee
We can nearly hear the gasps from here!
Coffee is a BIG part of many of our morning routines (and the rest of the day, shhh!) so it can seem almost inconceivable that we could start the day without a cup of the good stuff.
Spanx founder, Sara Blakely reportedly cuts out her morning coffee fix in favour of a healthy smoothie.
And it appears that she might be onto something...
Studies have shown that the most beneficial time to drink coffee is in fact not the first thing in the morning but actually 3 hours after you wake up (approx 9.30 am-11.30 am) as this is when we tend to have a dip in cortisol levels.
For a natural energy boost without the awful jitters or other side effects, why not try starting your day like Sara with a fresh smoothie or juice, your favourite supplement (*cough* Triumph * cough*) or a green tea?

Take Advantage of Power Hour
What is your most productive hour?
For some, it's the first thing in the morning. For others, it's lunchtime.
For Michelle Obama, it is 6.30 am in the morning…
Michelle likes to kick start her day with exercise, stating it is an important part of her self-care routine.
There is a multitude of research out there that proves that exercise can increase your ability to focus, optimises your brain and mood and therefore helps you get things done.
If you don’t have the luxury of time in the morning why not try one of these tips to build it into your day;
- Incorporate exercise into your commute by getting off one stop earlier or cycling
- Take the stairs instead of the elevator
- Suggest a walking work meeting
- Offer to make the coffee run
- Walk or cycle the school drop off/pick-up
- Hit a lunchtime workout/ Yoga class
Skip Screen Time for Me Time
Be completely honest- what’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
For most of us, it’s checking our phones.
In fact, studies have shown that over 80% of Irish women admit to checking social media first thing every morning!
For a more relaxing start to your day, why not channel your inner Huffington and consider swapping your morning Instagram scroll for 10 minutes of “me time”?
Start by checking in with yourself asking;
What would you like I like to achieve today?
How am I feeling?
What am I happy about?

Simplify to Amplify
Productivity is something a lot of us struggle with.
At any given moment, the majority of us are juggling a variety of different tasks.
But often, when your time is spread across multiple projects at once, the tasks can sometimes take longer or worse, nothing actually gets done!
Capitalizing on the old fashion mantra “less is more”, Marie Forleo believes we should “simplify to amplify”.
Marie focuses her day by deciding on ONE task she really wants to achieve that day to work towards a larger goal.
She suggests to;
- Set yourself a timer for a defined segment of time.
- Switch of all surrounding distractions
- Avoid moving onto any other task until you have completed the first
Conduct a Morning Download
Before you get excited, we are not talking about Netflix, but rather the humble to-do list.
Surviving the rise in digital productivity tools and apps, to-do lists have remained a firm favourite for their simplicity.
Our co-founders, Donna & Renée are not just entrepreneurs but also busy moms, so time is of the essence and preparation is key.
They both, of course, start their days with Triumph and then get cracking with a list of to-dos for the day ahead.
If like Donna & Renée, list-making speaks to you, here are some of their key tips to get the most out of the process;
- Be as specific as you can and try to attach a time to each task. Renée has two children so preparation is the key to getting them out on time each morning. She allocates time to prep the uniforms and sports gear the night before.
- Be realistic - this is not a space for long-term goals/ objectives. Stick with what you can actually manage to achieve to avoid setting yourself up for failure.
- Make space for downtime. Donna is up early with her toddler but when she is napping she tries to fit in a manifesting, positive meditation or a Body Balance session. Renée uses the Headspace meditation app which she finds great at getting her mind focused and ready for the day.
At Vitropics, we believe in empowering women to feel their best and take on whatever the day brings. No matter what your routine throws at you, remember that you’ve got this!
At home, we ensure that our little girls are reminded and encouraged of this each and every day.
